Foresty Workshop

3/12/2008
March 12, 2008

Charlie Lathem & Mitch Lathem both recently attended the Forestry Workshop in Forsyth, Georgia. The workshop was an event put on by the Georgia Chapter of Realtors Land Institute and sponsored by the Georgia Forestry Association & Old Republic Exchange Company (OREXCO)

Topics included new and emerging issues in the forestry related industry that are facing Georgia’s forests today. They heard several key speakers from the Georgia Forestry Commission on Georgia’s Carbon Registry & Opportunities for Carbon Trading and Georgia’s Renewable Fuel – It’s Forests. Followed up by Ross Harding of Herty Advanced Material Development Center who gave the group some very valuable insight into the research and development of Georgia’s Forests role in Ethanol Production.

To sum it all up, Charlie & Mitch learned about some of the opportunities that landowners could potentially benefit from when growing timber, from selling CO2 credits to harvesting timber for the production of ethanol.
