James C. Kidd, Jr. has joined the Southern Heritage team as a graduate from the University of Georgia. Jim graduated in 1972 with a BSFR. In 1973-1977 Jim worked with Georgia Kraft Company as a Senior Forester with responsibilities in land management and procurement. 1977-2007 he also worked by the United States Forest Service as a Certified Silviculturist, Timber Management Assistant, Resource Assistant, Assistant District Manager, Special Ecosystem Project Manager, Planner and Forest Program Manager for Land Adjustment.

During his career he has had extensive experience in all areas of Land Management including fire control; prescribe burning, timber management, wildlife and fisheries habitat management, recreation management, and silviculture. While with the National Forest System Jim served in Arkansas, North Carolina and Georgia National Forests. Jim has worked as a Forest Consultant, developing management plans and doing timber appraisal work. He has had extensive experience in developing coldwater habitat in trout streams and wildlife habitat improvement.

The last ten years of Jim’s experience has been as a Real Estate Agent. His responsibilities are in all aspects of land adjustment of the National Forests, with a focus on purchasing critical properties for the Appalachian Trail and the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River. During the last five years, Jim has served as Program Manager for the Chattahoochee National Forest in the land adjustment arena. Where he specializing in land exchange and purchase. The program was one of the most successful programs in the Southern Regions and was highlighted by extensive partnerships with The Nature Conservancy, The Conservation Fund and The Trust for Public Land. Jim also was the State Representative for the Forest Service for the Forest Legacy Program, serving on the state committee that developed the Legacy program for the State of Georgia and worked with the committee to determine where the funding would be spent. Jim has also had experience in working with Land Trusts in developing conservation easements and conservation purchases.
