Frank M. Riley, Jr. is a Georgia native who grew up on the family farm in Butler, Georgia. He attended ABAC after high school and transferred to the University of Georgia where he received his BS in Forest Resources in 1971 and his MBA in 1973. He has worked for 37+ years within the forest industry with major forestry companies and private forestry and timber companies. Frank’s experience during his career covers a wide range of positions within the industry beginning as a Forestry Technician with the U.S. Forest Service during Graduate School, after college as a log scaler with Champion International Corporation and rising to the position of General Manager of a Lumber Division with ITT Rayonier. He has hands-on experience with basic forest management, road construction, forest regeneration, BMP compliance, timber purchasing, and timber sales, sawmill management, and computer software development. Frank has also owned and operated his own forestry consulting and forestry sales business in the Southeast for the past 17 years.

Frank is a member and past President of the UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources Alumni Association, and was awarded the 2003 Distinguished Alumnus Award by the School.

During 2003, Frank took a year off from his personal businesses to take the position of Interim, Executive Director of the Georgia Forestry Association. The GFA is the statewide association of forestry and land professionals that works to promote Georgia’s forest and industry and landowner’s rights. Frank has been a member of the Georgia Forestry Association’s Board of Directors for many years and serves on several of the GFA’s working committees.

Prior to joining Southern Heritage Land Company, Inc., Frank was the Director of Forest Properties for Scofield Timber Company, Inc., based in Atlanta. At Scofield, he earned his Real Estate license and used it to acquire and manage forest properties for Scofield and its investors. During 2005 & 2006, he was also project manager responsible for the acquisition, development, and management of Knoxville Plantation, LLC, an 800-acre quail and wildlife plantation owned by the company and its investors. Frank was also involved with acquisition and development of wetland mitigation banks in North and Middle Georgia for Georgia Steambank, a wetlands mitigation company affiliated with Scofield.

Frank and his lovely wife Linda live on the old family farm in Towns County Georgia near Hiawassee, Ga. Frank enjoys his two tractors that he uses to contract with the U.S. Forest Service, Georgia DNR, and private landowners in north and middle Georgia for mowing, road maintenance, landscaping, campground maintenance, and other tractor work.

Frank and Linda are members of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris where he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Youth Sunday School teacher.

Frank’s service area is in Hiawassee, Georgia where he works with forestry and real estate clients in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
